No Greater Name

Wednesday, August 07, 2013

Have you ever had a song stuck in your head?...‘Can’t get you outta my head’. That one line that inevitably turns your mind to mush.

My personal favourite, well favourite is not the appropriate word to use here…if I was wanting to inflict pain on someone in a psychological way then my weapon of warfare would be, ‘It’s a small world’. Aha! You see, you read that and automatically that little sing song voice in your head hooked itself onto that one line and now you are mine!! (insert evil laugh)

So…while I have your attention, let me help you think on something else. Let’s ponder together. Grapple with some ideas. And come to some Beautiful conclusions about you and your God.

I have not had a song stuck in my head. I have had a song intricately woven into my heart. It’s an old song. Not 80s old, not retro or vintage, but compared to the rate at which Christian songs are produced today it is…oldish. Every time I sing it, I feel a depth of yearning and longing and truth. It’s like a prayer that springs up in my heart every time I hear it and I can’t help but sing at the top of my voice and proclaim His Great Name.

And this brings me to our pondering together, our musing and grappling of ideas. Let’s devour the lyrics of Natalie Grant’s, ‘Your Great Name’ together. Note: Italics are the lyrics and the bold is my musing. Stay with me and you won’t be disappointed.

‘Lost are saved; find their way; at the sound of Your Great Name
Jesus; My Saviour
All condemned; feel no shame; at the sound of Your Great Name
Jesus; My Liberator; My freedom fighter
Every fear; has no place; at the sound of Your Great Name
Jesus; My Prince of Peace; The Light of the world
The enemy; he has to leave; at the sound of Your Great Name’
Jesus; Lord of All; King of Kings and Lord of Lords, No GREATER Name

This is just the first verse. Of course the chorus comes next but I want to look at the second verse and bridge before we declare the chorus together.

‘All the weak; find their strength; at the sound of Your Great Name
Jesus; My Rock
Hungry souls; receive grace; at the sound of Your Great Name
Jesus; My Bread of Life
The fatherless; they find their rest; at the sound of Your Great Name
Abba Father
Sick are healed; and the dead are raised; at the sound of Your Great Name’
Jesus; My Healer; My Restorer

Bridge:
‘Redeemer, My healer, almighty, my savior, defender, you are my king’

Chorus:
Jesus, worthy is the lamb that was slain for us, Son of God and Man
You are high and lifted up; that all the world will praise Your Great Name’

WOW!

We have a beautiful opportunity as women, to lay aside our excuses (and lets be honest with each other, they are just excuses…see addendum) and gather together in August and proclaim His Great Name over our lives, over this city and our region.

Beautiful Conference is not a competition. It’s not about who has the nicest outfit, who has the best heals or flats, whatever your preference. It’s not about the person you sit next to. It’s about you. You and your beautiful God.

What is it you need? He is personal. He is intimate. He is your Deliverer, Healer and the Author and Perfector of your faith. He IS exactly what you need today! For 10hrs…that is all…come, be loved, be cherished be BEAUTIFUL, be challenged and be filled again.

Addendum: Excuses we have all used...

The kids - The men…will be fine with the kids…so they may not eat lunch on Saturday, dress quite how we’d like or have their teeth brushed or hair done. Lay it aside. (Or register them for Beautiful Kids ;) )

Work - Get in now. Ask for the time off and believe that God will bless you and show you the time to approach the boss…just like Esther. Lay it aside.

Expense - So you really can’t afford it. Believe Jesus your Provider will make a way. One word. Sponsorship. You may not be bold enough to ask a person for it…ask Jesus. Lay it aside.

Tired - Me too. Oops I mean come and get refreshed. What is tiring about eating delicious food, being pampered and sitting in a chair being fed the best from Heaven. Lay it aside. You don’t have to do a thing! This is a mini holiday with room service!

Housework - Really! This is your excuse! Lay it aside. It will be their Monday Martha!

Time - Bible says, redeem it. Lay it aside. You can spare 10hrs one weekend.

It’s just not my thing - Well you are God’s ‘thing’. Embrace it girl. Lay it aside. This is an anointed and appointed time for you.

See you at Beautiful Conference!
